Our 2012 Hack Day was everything we'd hoped it would be: fun, inspiring and productive. The hacks submitted at the end of the day ranged from highly practical to purely fun. Take a look:
- Grand Prize: NYCHere by Andrew Pinzler - An iOS app that uses Foursquare check-ins to tell you which NYC neighborhood you're in, and links to Times stories about that neighborhood
- Second Prize: Story Ark by Brian Abelson, Michael Keller and Julian Burgess - A visualization of the long tail of news
- Third Prize: Ted Talks by Tobias Wright - A tool t o help you interject in conversations: it quotes Times articles and reveals the "snoot level" of the quotation, so you can use it in the perfect setting (just like Tobias's friend Ted)
- NYT Earth by Ben Erwin
- NYTimes Ruby gem by Dustin Eichler
- Today's Most Popular by Govindaraj Kathirvel
- JSSML by NYT developer David Souther
- Rdio vs. Spotify by Daniel Bachhuber
- The Tumblr Times by David Huerta
- A Day in the Life by NYT developer Alastair Coote
- MovieLibs by Brian Glaz
- Readtrack by Beau Lebens
- What's On Times? by Alfred and Wei
- Dancing Desk by NYT developer Albert Sun
Grand prize winner Andrew Pinzler celebrated on Twitter (and shared a photo of the official 2012 Hack Day sticker):

And it turns out hacking can be inspiring to everyone: artist David Newman captured the event in some stunning iPad portraits, including this one of NYT developer Joe Hartoularos:

We'll have more photos and highlights later this week. Thanks to everyone who attended. Never stop hacking!
