Jacob Lew’s Signature, Squiggle-Free

Those awaiting a new, slinky-like John Hancock upon their dollar bills may be disappointed. The Treasury Department has released a copy of Secretary Jacob Lew’s signature, and it looks as if the secretary has been taking handwriting lessons:

Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew's signature as it will appear on currency.United States Treasury Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew’s signature as it will appear on currency.

That signature isn’t at all legible, but then remember what his signature used to look like, during his tenure at the Office of Management and Budget:

The White House

I liked that one better, frankly, even if it was the source of much mockery and armchair psychoanalysis.

Mr. Lew’s signature will appear on newly printed bills, starting with the five-dollar bill this fall. Here’s a collection of all the previous signatures to grace American currency.
