Those awaiting a new, slinky-like John Hancock upon their dollar bills may be disappointed. The Treasury Department has released a copy of Secretary Jacob Lewâs signature, and it looks as if the secretary has been taking handwriting lessons:

That signature isnât at all legible, but then remember what his signature used to look like, during his tenure at the Office of Management and Budget:

I liked that one better, frankly, even if it was the source of much mockery and armchair psychoanalysis.
Mr. Lewâs signature will appear on newly printed bills, starting with the five-dollar bill this fall. Hereâs a collection of all the previous signatures to grace American currency.
