David Kocieniewski, a business reporter for The New York Times, and Gretchen Morgenson, an assistant business editor and columnist, are answering questions about their four-part series, The House Edge, which examined the challenges posed by Wall Streetâs influence over markets and the prices consumers pay.
Articles in the series, largely based on requests by The Times under the Freedom of Information Act, explored issues ranging from the role of Goldman Sachs in the global aluminum market to academics who have reaped financial benefits while defending some of the largest players in the commodities business.
Mr. Kocieniewski was part of the team awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting in 2013 âfor its penetrating look into business practices by Apple and other technology companies that illustrates the darker side of a changing global economy for workers and consumers.â He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting in 2012 for âBut Nobody Pays That,â a series examining the efforts by businesses to lower their taxes and the debate over how to improve the tax system. Mr. Kocieniewski joined The Times in 1995.
Ms. Morgenson has covered the world financial markets for The Times since 1998 and won the Pulitzer Prize in 2002 for her âtrenchant and incisiveâ coverage of Wall Street.
