Up-Credentialing

I’ve written before about the increasing number of employers that require a four-year college degree if you want to work as a receptionist, file clerk or dental hygienist. Here’s a new one: cashier at McDonald’s, as posted on jobdiagnosis.com.

The text of the ad (which The Washington Examiner wrote about, and which is for a position in Massachusetts):

Crew (Cashiers)

Contract type : Full Time

Experience required : 1- 2 Years
Studies level required : Bachelor Degree

Customer Service, Cashiers: Friendly people wanted to smile while serving lots of guests daily. Flexible hours, part-time and full-time positions available. Work with your friends or make some new ones! Get a weekly paycheck with a side order of food, folks and fun. Join our Service Team today! Benefits: Affordable health, vision and dental insurance. Free uniforms, discounts on meals and employee discount program thru Entertainment Book. Structured training and regular performance reviews. Advancement opportunities within! This independent McDonalds franchise is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse work force.

It’s possible the educational requirement portion was somehow an error (presumably less skilled workers, for whom such jobs are a lifeline, will hope so). I found what seems to be a posting for the same position on McDonald’s internal job site, and it does not have any detail on educational or experience prerequisites.
